The Journey Church celebrated five fruitful years of ministry on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Over the past few years, The Journey has become a beautifully inclusive and diverse congregation that has touched the lives of many. At The Journey, we’re not known for our building, we’re known for who we are. A people committed to belonging, committed to the liberative spirit of Jesus, committed to seeking justice, and committed to radically loving our neighbors.
Grounded in Harrisburg city with intention to expand beyond, The Next Five seeks to grow The Journey’s reach and influence over the next five years while maintaining the sweetness of our community.
Built into this conviction lays a beautiful acknowledgment that our church is primed to continually engage with new people longing for an inclusive, life-giving, and multi-ethnic church in the greater Harrisburg and larger central Pennsylvania region.
Strategic Pillar 1: Impact Lives
Over The Next Five, we imagine being a church where we impact 5,000 new lives through our discipleship and community ministry. We orient this impact on belonging – creating space for people to experience belonging through the Spirit, our ministry, and the people of The Journey. Our hope is that through this belonging and impact, people may experience the love and hope of Jesus.
Strategic Pillar 2: Influence
Throughout The Next Five, we are committed to influencing systemic change in the Harrisburg region by propelling our church members to be agents of love, peace, and justice in their spheres of influence. Also, we imagine over The Next Five sharing the story of The Journey, both our celebrations and learnings along the way, in hopes of inspiring a new and fresh blueprint for churches in 2030-beyond. We imagine being a leader in our denomination and the larger Church around inclusive, compelling, and multi-ethnic church.
Strategic Pillar 3: Create Space
The final strategic pillar of The Next Five centers on creating space for new people to experience belonging. We are deeply grateful for our current building, but we are aware of the limited parking and limited ministry space for our growing church. With a commitment to the city of Harrisburg, we shall discern a possible new location for The Journey to further live out our vision and ministry as a congregation. We believe that a stronger ministry hub with adequate parking and space allows for further expansion of what is emerging through the Spirit of God at The Journey.
If a new location is not feasible, we shall discern how to further live out our ministry and vision within our current neighborhood. The Journey’s Leadership Team and staff are committed to full transparency in this process of creating space for new people to experience belonging.
We can’t wait to meet you! Let us know you’re coming so that our hospitality team and staff can welcome you!
